屬於 HIStory Past,Present and Future Book 1 該張專輯的第3張單曲(美國除外),
該張單曲的銷量在英國破了紀錄,根據n年前的統計,英國的銷售量為104萬張!
首週便打入英國單曲排行榜NO.1並蟬聯6週冠軍!於75名內停留了17周~

該張單曲不僅在英國取得了絕對性勝利,幾乎攻佔歐洲所有國家排行榜前5名,
在日本更是以Mini-album的形式發行,收錄曲目高達7首!
(日本之後幾乎都以該型式發行HIStory裡的單曲,諸如 you are not alone , they don't care about us , stranger in moscow 等)

該首的演唱會形式首次出現於１９９６年７月１６日的汶萊皇家演唱會(Brunei concert),
令人印象最深刻的便是1999年Michael Jackson & Friends "WHAT MORE CAN I GIVE"的德國場...
老麥表演到該首的中段部份,走進了三段式鐵橋,上升..................
之後因機器故障,整個鐵橋向下掉!!這下可不得了了!!!現場都慌了~
(slash當時跑的超快!)
老麥因這一震也顯的失神,但老麥仍相當敬業的完成表演,
直到整場演唱會結束,跟小朋友合照完後,便匆匆的下台就醫(可見老麥ㄧ定很不舒服.......)
這就是著名的德國奈何橋事件........

老麥從80年代人權與反戰的思維( we are the world , man in the mirror , heal the world ),
到95年轉變成以環保議題為主的earth song,
可惜,該時空的人們對環保議題並不重視,很單純的認為就是ㄧ首很美的歌~
並沒再去思考老麥想傳達的真正主題~
天才,是走於時代的尖端!在老麥身上便可證明~

在全球化的時代洪流下,世界各國才開始逐漸重視環保議題
從1997年簽訂的"京都議定書",
(目標乃是將大氣中的溫室氣體含量控制在一個適當的水平,以防止劇烈的氣候改便對人類造成無法彌補的傷害)
到近日歐洲提倡的350ppm運動,以及2012年即將接手的"峇里島圖示",
人們已開始感受到大自然反撲所造成的危機,積極地開始制定規則,
從國內到全球,興起了ㄧ連串的環保議題熱............

其中更以"二氧化碳的排放量"最為各國所關注!
環保議題實為刻不容緩，從早期的乏人問津到今日的炙手可熱,
環保於當今的地位,不言可喻。

身為地球上的成員之ㄧ,吾人對於環保,責無旁貸!
更須以全球化的心境,輔以全球治理的思維,
澈澈底底地將環保落實於週遭的每一面向才是。
我想,這才是老麥寫這首歌的終極理念!

老麥在THIS IS IT中強調,
"人們總說他們會解決問題,會解決的,別擔心"
"那他們到底是誰?"
"那就是我們!是我們"
"我們必須從日常生活中做起!!!"

老麥這席話,比起當今一堆華而不實的政策,更來的可貴!
從自己開始做,是最重要的!
就像證嚴法師說的,"做,就對了"
做了才會有開始,齒輪才會開始啟動!
光說不練,單純是為了曝光率的政策是救不了地球的......

就像老麥說的,從自己做起吧~於自己能夠負擔的範圍內,
少吃肉,多走路,少搭車,隨手關燈(電源),植栽,採購具有環保標章的產品,LED燈.................等
日常生活中到處都能著手,就看你(妳)肯不肯做而已~

其實~環保議題是很矛盾的,
工業革命之後,拜科技之賜,人類生活的便利性不斷向上提升,
然地球卻也因此生病.......
污染確實是科技進步後所產生的外部不經濟部份~
平衡點到底在哪?
目前是無解的~
至少不久後即將舉行的哥本哈根會議,世界各國的歧見仍然相當多!

地球的命運,便掌握在你我的手上,以及世界各國的共識是否存在......
